223 judoka from 41 nations from all five continents take part in the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi. The nations are primarily at the start with young athletes who want to position themselves for the 2024 Olympics. But many well-known and successful judoka are back on the mat after the rest and recovery phase after the Olympics.
With the exception of two female athletes, our athletes start against judoka they have never fought before.
Here are the draws in detail:
- -48 kg: Nathalie Kolein, TSV Großhadern
She begins her mission in Abu Dhabi against the Russian Irina Dolgova, who won silver in Kazan in May and was fifth in the European Championship. - -57 kg: Amelie Stoll, TSV Großhadern
Your first opponent Priscilla Gneto from France wants to know again. She was once an Olympic third party in London, but had hardly any results on her agenda for the past three years. Two months ago she started in Zagreb and won gold, in Paris she finished seventh. Amelie Stoll already fought against Gneto – exactly three years ago in the same place. At that time, Amelie Stoll lost – a good time to take revenge. - -63 kg: Agatha Schmidt, JC 66 Bottrop
Agatha Schmidt also starts against a French woman: Manon Deketer. She won bronze in Paris. The two faced each other for the first time at the European Cup in Sarajevo in September with a victory for the Frenchwoman. Here, too, our athlete will fight for revenge. - -63 kg: Sappho Coban, BC Karlsruhe
She fights first against the grand dame from Brazil, Ketleyn Quadros. Once third in the Olympic Games in Beijing, now seventh in Tokyo and currently fifth in the World Cup – the 34-year-old wants to know again. The two athletes have never fought against each other. - -70 kg: Giovanna Scoccimarro, MTV Vorsfelde
Our athlete starts with a bye and her opponent has yet to be fought out. - -78 kg: Alina Böhm, JZ Heubach
Alina Böhm starts against the Mongolin Erdenet-Od Batbayar. She finished seventh in Baku, but that’s exactly where she lost to both Luise Malzahn and Theresa Zenker. - -66 kg: Lennart Slamberger, JC Leipzig
Our athlete starts with a bye and his opponent is yet to be fought out. - -81 kg: Tim Gramkow, TKJ Sarstedt
His first opponent is the Mongol Batbold Bulgan. He is also one of the new faces of the Mongolian team and has not yet had any major successes in the IJF area. - -100 kg: Falk Petersilka, 1. Godesberger JC
Our athlete is the first to face the Uzbeken Muzaffarbek Turoboyev. He won bronze in both Tbilisi and Tashkent in March, but the two athletes have never competed against each other. - -100 kg: George Udsilauri, TSV Erbach
The first opponent is the Dane Mathias Madsen. Our athlete has never faced the 2020 U23 European champion.
