Three Latvian athletes will start the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup

2021/2022 will start this weekend in the northern Finnish town of Ruka. World Cup in cross – country skiing.

As in previous seasons, this time there will be three days of competition, starting with the classic sprint and the average distance (ten kilometers for women and 15 kilometers for men) in the classic and freestyle. Usually on the second day there will be a competition in the classic with an interval start, but the first stage will end with a freestyle drive. Unlike many previous years, there will be no mini-tour in Ruka this time.

The 21-year-old Eiduka, who has competed in the World Cup more than thirty times (31), made her debut in this level in Ruka in November 2018 and will be participating for the fourth year in a row. The skier, who met in the thirties 12 times during the World Cup, showed the best results in the northern town of Finland last year.

She was 41st in the sprint classic, 53rd in the ten-kilometer classic with an interval start, and rose to 45th in the ten-kilometer run.

The Latvian is generally satisfied with the start of the previous weekend, admitting that she did not expect such a good result in the sprint. “I was surprised that it was so good to start in the sprint. It’s still pure interest. Before Muonio I was forced to take several days off and not on the snow, so the result was not so good. After Muonio everything went on the usual tracks and routine, I could be on the snow. every day, so the result in Jelivarė was better, “explains Eiduka.

Meanwhile, Vīgants has started six times in the World Cup stages, achieving the best results or entering the top fifty in Switzerland. In mid-December last year in Davos, he took 48th place in 15 kilometers, but on the first day of this year in the first stage of the Tour de Ski sprint in Valmuster, he achieved his best result so far – 44th place.

At the start of this season, Muonio, the vice-leader of this year’s World Cup in roller skiing, showed commendable results in the very strong FIS competition. The athlete himself is satisfied with the result in only 15 kilometers in freestyle, which took place on the last day.

“I will be honest, the start of Muonio was only satisfying on the last day. I wasn’t really ready for the first two days of the season opening race, because maybe I arrived a little late, namely on Monday,” says a Madonnaer who arrived in Muonio four days before the race.

Vīgants, who won ninth place in the U-23 World Championship last year, plans to start all day.

Meanwhile, Bikše started the season in the FIS competition in Jelivāre, where he was in the 45th place in the sprint, in the 15th place in the 15-kilometer classic in the same length, in the 65th place. Last year he did not start in Ruka, but two years ago he was 99th in the sprint and 91st in the 15-kilometer classic.
