The Senior Badminton World Cup kicks off in the ‘Carolina Marín’ with the arrival of 1,500 athletes from 50 countries

The mayor, who thanked the trust again placed in Huelva by the National Badminton Federation, as well as the support for the event by the Junta de Andalucía, has encouraged the participants to “attend this competition also give them the opportunity to know, to live and to feel a city that has a lot to offer you “.

In total, according to a statement, 1,500 athletes, 130 of them from the Spanish delegation, will participate in the Senior World Cup, which will be held until December 4 at the Carolina Marín Sports Palace with free admission until full capacity is reached. Sports facilities that will host 1,762 matches in these days, from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, and in which 500 volunteers, from different parts of Spain and the world, will ensure the smooth running of the championships.

On the other hand, in the area surrounding the pavilion, the Village Plaza has been installed, a leisure space in the outdoor area and with three tents intended not only for attendees, but also for their companions, visitors and all Huelva residents. since the entrance is free.

The Village Plaza has a booth area for official merchandising, for sponsors and commercial brands. There will also be two air badminton courts to promote the practice of this sport, some tents that will house the VIP area, a restaurant space and a stage, where musical activities, talks, or different events will take place.

In this space, visitors to our city will be able to purchase different excursions and guided tours proposed by the organization to make Huelva and the province known. Here, the participants will also receive the 5,000 discount cards (up to 25%) in commerce and hospitality in the capital, an initiative of the City Council and the merchants’ associations to which a hundred establishments have joined.

Likewise, in parallel, during the next week at the Andrés Estrada Sports Center the Badminton Festival will be held aimed at participants who are disqualified from the World Cup and their families, who will be able to participate in an informal competition and in different training activities related to this sport.

The BWF Senior World Championships are held every two years for all categories divided by age as follows: +35, +40, +45, +50, +55, +60 +65, +70 and +75 . It is a special and prestigious event where each country registers a maximum of 4 players per category (male, female, mixed doubles, male doubles and female doubles).

For this competition, all the hotel rooms offered by the organization to the participants in all the 4 and 3-star hotels in the capital have been exhausted, where more than 400 people will be accommodated, while 900 will do so in the hotels of Punta Umbría.

For the transport of athletes and their families to the Sports Palace, as well as for excursions and visits, collaboration agreements have been established with Radio Taxi, Damas and Huelva Vision. And the Huelva City Council has established a shuttle connecting the center, Plaza del Punto, with the Palacio de Deportes through lines 1 and 2.
