The Judo Federation nominates Sairy Zoé Colón Rodríguez to flag for Cali 2021 | Others

The Puerto Rican Judo Federation (Fepurjudo) submitted the nomination of the Viequense judoka Sairy Zoé Colón Rodríguez to be the flag bearer of the Puerto Rico delegation, in the first Junior Pan American Games, in Cali, Colombia.

Colón Rodríguez is one of the young promises of judo.

“Sairy has the merits and all the support of our federation, since he has been our maximum youth exponent in recent times. What makes her worthy to be the standard bearer of the Youth Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia ”, expressed the president of Fepurjudo regarding the athlete positioned number one in the national ranking of -70 kilograms (kg).

Facing the fair, the 18-year-old Olympic youth figure as the first classified on the continent.

Among his most important achievements as an athlete in the cadet category (15-17 years old), Colón Rodríguez obtained the fifth place in the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires 2018. That same year he was also a bronze medalist in the Pan American Championship.

In 2019, he made the decision to transfer his sports training to the High Performance Center (CAR Valencia) in Spain and, immediately, he continued to stand out by becoming a double gold medalist in the 2020 Cadet and Junior Pan American Championships, while still a cadet athlete.

In her first year of experience in the junior category (18-20 years old), the young woman from Vieques became a bronze medalist in the 2021 Junior Pan American Championship and was champion of Spain by obtaining the gold medal during the National Championship of that country. in the -78 kg category.

In addition, she obtained valuable points for the junior world ranking, in which she is currently seeded in position 12, after finishing fifth in the 2021 European Youth Cup, held in the city of Prague, in the Czech Republic; and in seventh position in another Cup held in Coimbra, Portugal.

“Sairy’s athletic track record is definitely impressive; and such has been her work ethic to be located in the elite of high performance sports ”, commented the federative entity.

After the passage of Hurricane María, the municipal facility where Colón Rodríguez practiced suffered damage. However, she kept her career active.

La Fepurjudo highlighted that Colón Rodríguez is doing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, virtually, while doing his sports preparation at the judo CAR in Valencia, Spain.

In addition to Colón Rodríguez, the federative entity will also have the representation of two other female juvenile judokas: Ettelimay Ramos Serrano from Guayabeña, who will compete in the 78 kg category; and the Viequensa Nahiara Feliciano Williams, in the -63 kg category.

Both athletes are seeded as number one in the national ranking of their respective weight categories.

The nomination process to select the flag bearers for Cali 2021 began on October 27 and will run until Monday, November 8 at 5:00 in the afternoon.

The youth fair will be held from November 25 to December 5 in Colombia.
