CHRONICLE

The basketball team is forced to interrupt its streak of consecutive successes: at the PalaMorandi in Umbertide, in fact, the stop 82-79 arrives by the host team, able to recover in the second half and keep the bianconere at a distance until end of the race. N’Guessan’s brilliant performance of 23 points and 8 rebounds, and four La Spezia in double figures was not enough.

The first basket of the match is a free throw by Federica Pompei for Umbertide, to which Zolfanelli responds. The match develops on high rhythms and balance in the score. La Cestistica tries to give the first push towards the end of the first period with N’Guessan, who wins two potential three-point games, one of which is concretized, and Colgonesi (14-19), but the hosts immediately mend with Beatrice Olajide and Giudice (19-19), then run away on +4 with which they close the first fraction (27-23). The second quarter resumes along the lines of the previous one: balance and high intensity. For La Spezia, however, good and bad news: the good news is that Alyssa Cerino enters the game, putting Umbertide’s defense in difficulty both under the basket and with shots from outside. The guests thus touch the +8 (32-40), but the bad news is the injury to Silvia Colognesi’s ankle, forced to leave the field. At the end of the first half the Umbrians get closer with Baldi but a free throw by Templari seals the result at 34-41 after 20 ‘.

At the beginning of the second half the Basket ball hits +9 twice, then Umbertide begins his comeback and reaches -1 with points from Baldi and Kotnis (47-48). The guests, however, do not get upset and continue to score with Templari, N’Guessan and Castellani, but before the Umbrian team impacts on 56-56 with four consecutive points from Olajide, two of which came from free throws following a foul suffered in shooting phase at the end of the midfield. The last quarter is throbbing: La Bottega Del Tartufo takes the lead again with a triple from Moriconi, N’Guessan overtakes with 2/2 from the line, then Paolocci scores 1/2 and Cabrini 2/2, Castellani equalizes with a shot in suspension (62-62). Cabrini’s three-point game gives Umbertide +3, then Pompeii stretches again, forcing coach Corsolini to timeout.

The back and forth between the two teams continues uninterrupted, then Templari wins three free throws by being fouled from beyond the arc, but only capitalizes on two (73-70). In the next action comes the recovery and always the captain scores the -1 undisturbed. Thanks to five points from Paolocci, the Umbrians reach +7 (80-73), but the basketball team does not give up and reaches -3 with N’Guessan and Castellani. In the final, La Spezia would also have one last chance at their disposal to seek extra time but Serpellini was stopped by Baldi. The match therefore ends 82-79 for the hosts. With this defeat the bianconere are thus joined by Florence and Civitanova in fourth place in the standings behind Savona, San Giovanni Valdarno and Umbertide herself.
