Successful series of the BG Göttingen: Head coach Roel Moors demands discipline from the team

Two teams win four times in a row and then meet in direct comparison: The starting position in the basketball Bundesliga couldn’t be much nicer when the BG Göttingen competes at the Hamburg Towers on Sunday. Tip-off of the game in the edel-optics.de arena is at 3 p.m.

Violet head coach Roel Moors watched over the last week of training with eagle eyes that his team did not lose touch after the latest successes and instead kept the focus on the essentials: unconditional discipline and implementation of the match plan. “In a situation like this, you run the risk of losing discipline. But I didn’t get the impression that we’re going to be less. The units were okay, ”reports the Belgian from the training session. “The quality was sometimes a little better, sometimes a little worse, but that’s normal.”

The turning point in the game against Bonn is the turning point

The way for the violets up to this point of the season was long – starting with a successful preparation over the false start into the season with defeats in the league and in the cup up to the convincing appearances of the recent past, which among other things the top teams of the Ludwigsburg, Berlin and Oldenburg were relegated to their place in the last BBL season. “The opponents in preparation weren’t that strong, but the expectations were okay,” says Moors in retrospect. “Then we had a difficult start with two games in the league and cup that were weak.” The fact that his team then turned the game against Bonn is an essential point for the BG head coach: “We gained self-confidence.”

As a result, the BG is now in a comfortable situation. “It looks good, but the risk of going the other way is always there. We have to be aware of that, ”emphasizes Moors. “The successes are the result of hard work, and only if we work hard do we have the chance to win.” Another piece of good news: Despite hard training work, the head coach can draw on a full range of personnel.

Because Bayern lost their game, the Veilchen climbed to the top of the BBL table in the middle of the week, but that’s not a benchmark for Moors: “It’s a little different than last year because the BBL is very even this season. Nothing can be deduced from the table at the moment. ”However, the Belgian warns of the upcoming opponent:“ Hamburg is a very strong team that plays very aggressively. That will be a challenge for us. ”

At the moment there is a lot of talk about the retired guard Ray McCallum, but Moors refuses to focus his system on one player: “He has a lot of experience and is a player with scoring qualities. But we never focus on one player, we look at the collective and try to make a plan on this basis. “

Towers got a lot of offensive rebounds

The Towers are among the best offensive rebound teams in the league, and Hamburg’s defensive team is also impressive: They only allow 77.3 points per game. “Hamburgers have two main characteristics: they like to play fast and they defend aggressively,” affirmed Moors’ assistant Olivier Foucart.

In preparation for the season, the Violets have already conquered the Towers once in mid-September (88:78). “Of course, Hamburg’s gaming philosophy is still the same,” said Foucart. “We have to be well prepared for Hamburg’s aggressive defense, we mustn’t allow ourselves to lose too many balls and we need a good selection of throws.”
