Santandereana triumphs in the Women’s Amateur Latin America 2021 golf tournament

The golfer from Santander Valery Plata was one of the favorites to obtain the title of Women’s Amateur Latin America, recognition that she achieved this Sunday.

The day began with María José Marín from Cali leading the general classification, who beat Valery Plata by two strokes.

Plata fought hand in hand with the Caleña María José Marín. In the last round he arrived with two strokes behind his compatriot, but managed to sign a card of 70 (-1) and the Cali of 74 (+2).

The bumanguesa crowned with a cumulative 276 (-11) and one advantage.

Plata is a player at Michigan State University in the United States and has achieved different awards such as ‘Copa Los Andes’ 2019 in Paraguay. Additionally, she has participated in the USGA’s US Women’s Amateur and the Annika Invitational.

He also made his LPGA Tour debut this year at the Meijer LPGA Championship in mid-June.

“The work that I have been doing is very satisfactory,” she said after being asked at a press conference about her recent distinction as the absolute winner of the 2021 South American Amateur Ranking. “I always saw myself first and it is something of which I feel very proud.”

This is the first edition of the competition, which is set to be the most important in the region for amateur ladies.
