PSG director Leonardo on his hind legs now that injured Messi is going to Argentina for international obligations | Football

FootballNo Lionel Messi in PSG’s 2-3 win at Bordeaux. The Argentinian was sidelined for 90 minutes with knee pain, but will board the plane to Argentina for the international break. And that is not to the liking of technical director Leonardo.

Lionel Messi is still looking for his first league goal in Ligue 1 for PSG. The Argentinian has not yet reached his top form and has suffered from physical discomfort in recent weeks. Nevertheless, he may soon be there for Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Uruguay.

Whether Messi will actually come to minutes with his country’s national team is undoubtedly being followed with suspicion by Leonardo. The PSG technical director is not really pleased with Messi’s departure to Argentina, preferring to see him continue working on his recovery in Paris.

“We do not agree that a player leaves for international obligations, when in our view he is not fit or is recovering,” said Leonardo in Le Parisien. “It doesn’t make sense. UEFA has to draw up rules for situations like this.”
