The tennis professional and world number one Novak Đoković caused a sensation with statements about the media. These operated “propaganda for the elites”. The mainstream media are irritated and speculate whether Đoković has connections to the QAnon movement.

The subject of corona vaccination is currently one of the most controversial not only in the normal population, but also among professional athletes. After the debate about professional footballer Joshua Kimmich, tennis professional and world number one Novak Đoković caused a sensation with some statements relating to the repeated media questions after his corona vaccination. It is not known whether the tennis ace is vaccinated against the corona virus. In mid-September, Đoković had stated that he would not comment on whether he had been vaccinated against Corona, as this was his private matter.

During the ATP tour at the Paris Master, he made a sweeping attack against the mainstream media and criticized their “propaganda”. There is less and less “free journalism and free information”, instead the media are only concerned with “spreading propaganda for the elites”:

“More and more is being controlled by one or two sources, so that propaganda is being spread that is beneficial to the elite or a specific group of people. It hits me, but that doesn’t stop me from doing what I think is right,” said Djokovic.

For him this is “no longer journalism”. The Serb also announced that he has not consumed any media for a long time:

“I haven’t read newspapers for a few years, whether online or in print. I don’t watch TV news either.”

However, he does get some information on social media. Regarding repeated questions from reporters about his vaccination status, he stated:

“Regardless of whether I answer ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘maybe’, ‘don’t know’ or ‘I’m thinking’ – the media will turn the answer around.”

Đoković also made it clear that his vaccination status was still his private matter:

“This question is inappropriate, it is a private matter. According to the law, I could prosecute someone who asks me about it.”

In the mainstream media, which the tennis star accuses of propaganda, people were irritated by his statements. Due to his choice of words, he was sometimes moved into the camp of “conspiracy theorists”, as he uses terms such as “elites” that influence the press. The sports magazine ran even speculated on whether Đoković has ties to the QAnon movement.
