There is little chance that Kevin De Bruyne will make his comeback at Manchester City on Wednesday evening after his corona infection. The day before the move to Aston Villa in the Premier League, his coach Pep Guardiola confirmed that De Bruyne tested negative at the last check but has not yet resumed training.
“Kevin hasn’t trained yet. He was negative for the last test but was unable to train,” said Guardiola, adding that “Kevin needs to be fit to show his top quality.”
Due to a corona infection, 30-year-old De Bruyne missed City’s last two competition matches, at home against Everton (3-0) and West Ham United (2-1), and the Champions League top match against PSG (2-1). Shortly before that, he had completed the World Cup qualifiers with the Red Devils against Estonia (3-1) and Wales (1-1). Koen Casteels and Thorgan Hazard also tested positive for covid-19 after their passage with the Devils.
At his press conference, Guardiola also briefly mentioned the seventh Golden Ball that Lionel Messi, with whom he had so many successes at Barcelona, won on Monday. He does not share the criticism that Messi would have unfairly won at the expense of Robert Lewandowski. De Bruyne finished in eighth place.
