Pedri wins the Raymond Kopa trophy

FC Barcelona player Pedri received the Raymond Kopa Trophy, rewarding the best under-21 player of the year, at the Ballon d’Or gala on Monday in Paris. The Spaniard beat the Englishman Jude Bellingham and the German Jamal Musiala and succeeds Matthijs de Ligt, winner in 2019.

Pedri, 19, was the revelation of FC Barcelona last season, playing 52 matches and compiling 4 goals and 4 assists. The young midfielder quickly became a Spanish international and was an undisputed starter in La Roja at Euro last summer. In the process, he also played in the Olympic Games with the Spanish hopes. Pedri will have played a total of 73 matches over the 2020-2021 season.

The Barça player also received the Golden Boy Award, presented by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport and which rewards the best player under 21 of the year, last week.

Nominated, Jérémy Doku finished in 9th place.

The Kopa trophy is elected by a jury made up of the winners of the Ballon d’Or, each designating three players in order of merit from a list of ten young players drawn up by the magazine France Football, the organizer. The criteria are individual and collective performance, class, and the ability to register over time.
