Paris 2024: the Olympic Games flag already flies over Colombes

The tour of the Olympic and Paralympic flags, which began in September in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis), continues. This Sunday, it is on the town hall of Colombes, one of the host cities of Paris 2024 that they floated. In less than three years, the field hockey events will be held in the Yves-du-Manoir stadium. Between batucadas and the return of the “Colombian Olympic strides”, the entire city center has vibrated for the Olympism.

Isabelle Jouin opened the ball. “A century after the games of 1024, the history of Olympism and Colombes are inseparable,” insists the president of the French field hockey federation, whose “headquarters have been in Colombes for a year already”. The world and Olympic judo champion Thierry Rey, now special advisor to Paris 2024, has hit the nail on the head: “2024 was above all the Colombes Games. These flags bring us into our Olympiad! »What galvanize a little more an audience already heated to white by the Brazilian bands in spite of the mercury strike!

€ 80 million to renovate the Yves-du-Manoir stadium

At his side, Patrick Chaimovitch, the mayor (EELV) of Colombes surrounded by several elected officials, drinks whey. He evokes the values of Olympism, “excellence, friendship and respect” and assures that he is “convinced that it is possible to have Colombian athletes in 2024”.

A few moments later, he will kick off the Colombian strides, a race open to all depending on the format, from the age of 4. “The proceeds from the 10 km will be donated to four associations fighting against violence against women: L’Escale, Le Planning Familial, Le CIDFF and l’Entracte. This illustrates one of our cardinal values, solidarity, ”adds the elected official who had worn the fluorescent t-shirt of the race.

While waiting for the Olympics and the arrival of the hockey players, the Yves-du-Manoir stadium, the setting for those of 1924 before becoming the headquarters of Racing-Métro rugby, will have to undergo a complete renovation. A facelift estimated at 80 million euros for this historic site belonging to the departmental council. Last spring, his stand was dismantled and sold on the agorastore.fr site. “Today, only the preparatory work, on the roads and the networks, has been carried out,” indicates Fatoumata Sow, deputy mayor responsible in particular for sports and the Olympic Games. The bulk of the work will begin in early 2022. “
