Olympics 2024: 50 students from Letot college in Bayeux are preparing to discover Greece

The city of Bayeux (Calvados), awarded the Terre de Jeux 2024 label for two years, is involved in the “2024, let’s share a passion for games” project. On Monday, November 15, 2021, students from Letot college welcomed Greek teachers, as part of a future trip to the land of Olympi.

In 2018, Calvados launched the project “2024 let’s share the passion for games”, at the initiative of the deputy Laurence Dumont. 26 schools in the Department are united around the values ​​of Olympism and Paralympism and are sponsored by top athletes. Among the highlights that punctuate this project, trips to Greece are organized. Letot College is part of this adventure, around fifty students are preparing to discover the cradle of the Olympic Games.

The atmosphere of the Olympics in Letot

In the morning of Monday, the school welcomed eight Greek teachers, specially come to “prepare the mobility of the pupils”, explains Fabienne Mantéca, principal of the Letot college. About fifty students will fly to Greece in April 2022. “They will leave for five days, to discover Ioannina, the site of Meteora and the Acropolis of Athens, all punctuated by sports activities”. Their Greek counterparts will come to France next May.

L’inclusion

The Letot college is working on this project alongside the IME (Medico-educational institute) l’Espoir de Bayeux. “We want to build this project around the values ​​of inclusion,” confirms the principal of the college. In addition, four students from the medical establishment are part of the judo sports section of Letot.

The students participating in this large-scale project welcomed the Greek teachers around a demonstration of judo, well put together by Sophie Le Parlouer, teacher of EPS, responsible for the judo section, which immersed the public in the atmosphere of the Olympic Games. The national songs preceded the judo competition, opposing in the final… France against Greece. After a few fights, it was necessary to admit the defeat of France, “which is not usual”, teased Sophie Le Parlouer.

After these sports exchanges, the project representatives unveiled the plaque confirming participation in the project, funded by the European agency Erasmus to the tune of 1.7 million euros.

A medal ceremony followed, “which I would like to recover at the end of the course”, laughs the PE teacher, who concluded with “a tradition of the Olympic village: a small celebration”. All have embarked on the perilous traditional Greek dance: the sirtaki. The sub-prefect and his accomplices have moreover not been unworthy in the exercise.
