Spain’s Garbiñe Muguruza, fifth in the world rankings, defeated Estonian Annet Kontaveit 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday and qualified for the semifinals of the Akron WTA Finals in Guadalajara. She will face the Catalan Paula Badosa, already classified, in a historic semifinal that will be played tomorrow Tuesday at 9pm.

Garbiñe Muguruza and Paula Badosa will play to become the second Spaniard in a Masters final after Arantxa Sánchez Vicario in 1993. Arantxa fell to German Steffi Graf at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
