MLB: Dodgers award contract to starting pitcher and free agent Andrew Heaney

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed left-handed pitcher and free agent Andrew Heaney to a one-year, $ 8.5 million contract, filling a gap in their starting pitching rotation .

Heaney could earn an additional $ 1M in performance bonuses of $ 250,000 if he reaches the targets of 100, 125, 150 and 175 innings pitched.

The 30-year-old Heaney played for the Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees in 2021. He finished the season with an 8-9 record and a 5.83 earned-run average.

The Angels traded him to the Yankees on July 30 for two minor league players. After the trade, he went 2-2 with an earned-run average of 7.32 in 12 games, including five starts.

Despite a rather high earned runs average, Heaney had 150 strikeouts and walked 41 in 129 2/3 innings.
