MLB – 38 million a year: Baseball star Scherzer wins record deal with the Mets

New York (SID) – Max Scherzer becomes the highest-paid professional baseball player in history, according to US media. The 37-year-old American has accordingly agreed on a three-year contract with the New York Mets, which brings him a total of 130 million dollars (approx. 115 million euros). With an annual salary of the equivalent of 38.4 million euros, he replaces pitcher Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees (approx. 32 million) as the player with the highest earnings.

Scherzer had last played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Mets will be the fifth club in his 15-year career. In 2019 he won the World Series with the Washington Nationals.
