Mercedes: “Hamilton was disqualified in Brazil due to ‘loose screws’ on rear wing” – F1journaal.be

The Mercedes F1 team has recovered the rear wing from Lewis Hamilton which the FIA inspected in Brazil after qualifying and which led to Hamilton’s disqualification. Now that Mercedes has the rear wing back, it could also investigate the cause of the disqualification.

According to Toto Wolff, the rear wing was damaged as expected, more specifically broken due to a problem with ‘loose screws’. Mercedes wants to contradict rumors that it would have deliberately tried to qualify with an illegal rear wing in Brazil.

“We have the rear wing back,” said Toto Wolff. “And as we thought, it is broken. He broke during qualifying.”

“We did not pass the test of 85 millimeters on the right side. We passed the test on the left and in the middle, but not on the right and that for a fraction of a millimeter.”

“We were not allowed to inspect the rear wing or make the claim that the rear wing was broken. As a result, we discovered that two screws came loose during qualifying. That meant that the right side of the rear wing was no longer legal.”
