Medalists arrive in DR euphoric after presentation at the Panam de Cali

THE NEW DIARY, SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican judo team returned to the Dominican Republic this Monday with a total of eight medals obtained during their participation in the First Junior Pan American Games that are held in the city of Cali – Valle 2021.

Along with the judocas came the badminton and triathlon teams.

Axel del Castillo, a double Pan American medalist, a silver and a bronze, described his experience in Cali as one of the most important things that has happened in his career, while thanking his technicians and delegates for guiding him in a good way in all his short-lived career.

“I will never forget those medals because we fought for them from the beginning. That experience was unique for me and for all my teammates, in that sense I want to thank my coaches for guiding me and helping me along this path ”, stated del Castillo when speaking on his return from Colombia.

The delegations were received by the acting president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), Professor Nelson Ramírez, as well as the co-secretary of the COD, Gerardo Suero Correa.

Ramírez took the opportunity to highlight the work of the athletes who “gave everything for everything” on their journey in the youth fair current. In addition, he added: “The COD is proud of the Dominican athletes who are representing us in all the international tournaments that they operate.”

The criollos returned to Quito on a flight from the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport of Cali, until they landed on the runway of the Las Américas International Airport.

Another of the outstanding in the sport of judo in the Youth Pan American Games was Omaira Ramírez Piña, who won a bronze in her participation on the mat. Ramírez Piña is the daughter of the immortal of Dominican Sports, Dulce María Piña,

“It was an unforgettable experience,” declared Ramírez Piña, winner of a bronze medal in the division of less than 78 kilos, in the sport of judo upon arrival.

The Dominican judokas finished with eight medals, including one gold, three silver and four bronze.

The gold medal was conquered by Ariela Sánchez, in the category less than 63 kilograms, while the silver medals achieved by Antonio Tornal, in the category of less than 73 kilograms, also Moira Morillo, in the division of more than 78 kilos, another of Axel del Castillo, in less than 100 kilograms and the bronze distinctions were won by Albis Polanco in less than -81 kilograms, Omaria Ramírez Piña in less than 78 kilos, Aleida Liliana Guerrero, in the category less than 48 kilograms and the other was from the mixed team.

Badminton and Triathlon arrive

The national team of the triathlon discipline arrived this Monday with their athletes, delegates and coaches, on the same flight that mobilized the judo and badminton teams.

The triathlon athletic delegation was made up of Jorgina Medina Feliz, Johenny Feliz and Melvin Martínez, as well as Alfonso González as coach and Fanny Marte as delegate.

The male representative of the triathlon was in the eighteenth position of the thirty-three competitors, while the women were disqualified from the competition for poor execution in the water.

The badminton representation also arrived this Monday along with their delegates and coaches.

The badminton team finished seventh in the day of their sport in the women’s branch.
