Matz agrees for four years with San Luis

Left-hander Steven Matz and the Cardinals have reached a four-year, $ 44 million deal, a source told MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.

The pact could reach an amount of US $ 48 million through incentives. There will also be a signing bonus.

The Mets had made an offer to Matz, but so did seven more teams. The city of St. Louis is about a five-hour drive from Nashville, where Matz resides full-time.

In 2021, Matz had a 3.82 ERA and a 115 ERA + in 29 appearances for the Blue Jays, following somewhat disappointing seasons with the Mets, his hometown club in New York. Matz’s four-seam fastball averaged 94.5 miles per hour last season, his best speed since his rookie year in 2015.
