Mandalika

Kawasaki rider, Jonathan Rea, was made optimistic about starting race 1 WSBK Mandalika 2021. After the race was postponed he felt that an opportunity was wasted.

Heavy rain fell ahead of the Mandalika WSBK race 1, Lombok, Saturday (20/11/2021). At that time, the riders were already on the starting grid to start the race.

However, due to the lack of track visibility, the race director decided that the race, which was supposed to start at 15.00 WITA, was postponed. The race will start again on Sunday (21/11), taking advantage of the session that should have been to hold a superpole ahead of race 2.

Rea admitted that he was a little confident with the race that was decided by the wet race. However, things got worse due to very high rainfall.

“That’s not good news because it missed one chance. Two more, but of course we are at a disadvantage now. When it started raining I thought it was my chance to get a few points. I feel a little bit confident in that condition,” he said. Rea at the news conference.

“But the conditions became dangerous because there were a lot of puddles on the track. We didn’t know the track conditions, how the conditions were at all the tracks because none of us riders saw it.”

“But the decision has been made and we start again tomorrow. I can’t wait to race because step by step this weekend after a tough free practice 1, we have come back and feel competitive and ready to fight,” he added.

Jonathan Rea is still fighting to defend his WSBK title this season. In the 2021 WSBK standings, Rea is in second place with 501 points. The Northern Irish rider is 30 points away from Pata Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlioglu, who is in first place.
