Local badminton prepares to face major international challenges

  • Three of the six regional athletes summoned to Team Chile will carry out their preparation in Brazil to be part of the Pan American Games and the South American Championship of the specialty.

Six badminton players from the Promises Chile program prepare their bags to represent the country in two important international competitions that will take place this November; Alonso Medel will be part of the Pan American Youth Games that will be held in Cali in Colombia, while Belén Troncoso, Benjamín Bahamondez, Martín Olmos, Agustín Maldonado and Camila Astorga will compete in the South American Championship of the discipline to be held in Brazil.

In preparation for both challenges, the athletes Alonso Medel, Belén Troncoso and Benjamín Bahamondez, have already set out for the Rio de Janeiro country to be part of a concentration of the discipline to be held between November 4 and 27 in Campinas, of which everything will be part Badminton Team Chile.

Alonso Medel will be part of the Pan American Youth Games between November 23 and 30. It states that through the concentrate “I hope to prepare myself with a little more sparring and training for the competition; I am anxious and grateful for the opportunity that is not given and I would like to try a medal but I am super focused and with my feet on the ground “.

At the Pan American Games, Alonso will be directed by Susana Salinas, a badminton coach from the Promesas Chile program in Antofagasta and who was summoned by FEDEBAD as DT of the national team.

The competitions will continue with the South American Badminton to be played between November 26 and December 5 in JoinVille, Brazil, which will include Belén Troncoso, Martín Olmos, Agustín Maldonado, Camila Astorga and Benjamín Bahamondez. The latter expressed his satisfaction for being part of this competition in which he hopes to “represent Chile well and prepare in the best way.”

Let us remember that Benjamin Bahamondez arrived a few weeks ago in Chile from Denmark, a country where he participated for a month in an international training camp. “I was fascinated with the experience but I also felt that the work of the teacher Susana is not so far from what they do. What we need to do is instill discipline from a young age “, he stated.

In this matter, the Seremi del Deporte, Roberto Meza, said that “The competitions are fundamental for the development of our athletes, so we have good expectations about their participation because they have been preparing awareness.” Precisely on this point, the badminton technician, Susana Salinas, emphasized that thanks to the agreement that IND maintains with the Colegio San Luis de Antofagasta “we are training five times a week and we have a load of 22 hours a week, so we trust in obtaining good results “, he concluded.
