L’Expression: Sports – The 43rd edition will take place in May in Oran

The 43rd edition of the African Judo Championship (men / women) will take place from May 26 to 29, 2022, at the Palais des Congrès of the Hôtel Méridien (Oran), the organizers of this event agreed during a meeting held in Oran. This decision brought together representatives of the Algerian Judo Federation (FAJ), at their head its president, and members of the organizing committee of the Mediterranean Games (JM), scheduled in the same city, next summer.
The local director of youth and sports (DJS), Yacine Siefi, also took part in this conclave, to note the equipment needs of this competition, also falling within the framework of the experimental events (tests-Events) scheduled in the capital of the West for the 19th edition of JM. Indeed, this African “senior” championship will be a good preparation for the organizers, before hosting the great Mediterranean sporting event. The last African judo championship organized by Algeria dates back to the year 2000. It was the 22nd edition of this competition, hosted by the Harcha Hacène room (Algiers) between May 9 and 14, 2000.
At the end of the tournament, Algeria was crowned with 4 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals, ahead of Tunisia (3 gold, 3 silver and 9 bronze), when Egypt had completed the podium, with 3 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze, it will be recalled. The official document attributing to Algeria the organization of these 43rd African “senior” judo championships in 2022, was signed by the former Secretary of State, in charge of elite sport, Salima Souakri, and the president of the African Union for the discipline, the Malagasy Randrianasoloniako-Niaiko Siteny.
The signing ceremony of this document took place last June on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the International Judo Federation (IFJ), held in Budapest (Hungary), and during which, Salima Souakri was elected member to the executive board, while his compatriot, Mohamed Meridja, was re-elected within the same structure.
