Let’s go shopping on Black Friday

In the spirit of the season, we’re going shopping for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Black Friday to meet the need for duty roster at the free agency

Since the Major League Baseball off-season got off to a faster start than usual, there were more trades, free agent signings, etc. than would normally happen by Black Friday. This is because the CBA expires on December 1st and the lockout threatens. As a result, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the rest of baseball are facing another unusual off-season.

Nobody knows how long the lockdown will last. What we do know is that it’s going to be a bad, ugly time between Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association. Because of this, the teams are working in a rush to get the offseason moves done before the CBA expires.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have already taken two remarkable steps. The first was Signing of the free agent starter jar José Quintana to a 1-year contract. Then they signed left-handed thug Yoshi Tsutsugo to a one-year contract. There are still steps Ben Cherington and the Pirates need to take, however.
