Leroy Sané’s miraculous transformation culminates in the Kimmich debate

New spokesman for FC Bayern ?: In the Kimmich debate, Sané’s miraculous change comes to a climax

Leroy Sané has been in top form at Bayern for weeks. He’s finally bringing his whole football class onto the pitch. And away from the square, Sané appears different in Munich. The national player emerges from the shadow of the other Bayern stars.

It wasn’t that long ago that Leroy Sané ran to the national team as a painted polar bear. For his appearance in a designer coat, there was heavy criticism at the time. Sané would set his priorities wrong, it was said. The image of the unapproachable professional who had long since lost all reference to reality spread quickly. And from then on his game was dissected even more.

Alleged experts turned every weakness of form into a question of character. Sané is a virtuoso without a fighting spirit. He lacks the last bile to make it to the top. That was the widespread consensus. After his first season at Bayern, most felt confirmed in their assumption.

Leroy Sané has already been labeled as a wrong purchase

Finally, Sané had to struggle with teething problems. He lost an unusually large number of balls and stopped at the wrong moments. In some situations he seemed listless. The Munich audience even accused him of a certain indifference. Why Sané was whistled against Cologne. It was the public low point of a hitherto great misunderstanding.

But for weeks Sané has been showing his true capabilities. “He totally found the switch,” said Julian Nagelsmann last. The wing racer has blossomed into a combat dribbler. Even if Munich lose, like against Eintracht Frankfurt, for example, he is one of the better.

Nagelsmann especially likes to emphasize “the talent-free actions”. After all, that’s probably the best way to describe the change of the 25-year-old. In Munich, people take note of the development with a certain amount of satisfaction. Because after the harsh criticism of the past few months, Sané now seems to have finally arrived at Bayern – and that also in the dressing room.

Sané: “I have been vaccinated myself and someone who stands for it”

He is shedding more and more of the image of the introverted silent. He has long enjoyed a high reputation within the team anyway.

And yet it comes as a surprise that Sané of all people is now one of the faces of the FCB vaccination campaign. Before the Champions League game at Dynamo Kiev, he publicly advertises it again: “I have been vaccinated myself and someone who stands for it.”

He also expresses his point of view towards the unvaccinated in the team. “I already mentioned it to Serge. Of course I want you to be in the squad, to be on the pitch with us and to be able to help us.”

Sané soon to be the spokesman for FC Bayern?

And further: “They are important players for us. We as a team want to have them with us, there is no question about that. But I respect your decision. We have already said everything about it. The players know how things are going.”

The clear words underline his gained self-confidence. The 25-year-old seems ready for more responsibility. Even if the step to becoming an eloquent spokesman is still a long one.

Because the press conference also revealed one thing: Such an appearance is still uncharted territory for Sané. Many a bumpy answer suggested that.
