Le Matin – Dakar International Open: Morocco ranks third

The six members of the national Judo team managed to win a medal each.

The national Judo team placed third in the Dakar International Open, which concluded on Sunday. Moroccan judokas won six medals, two in gold, the work of Hassan Doukkali (-73 kg) and Aziza Chakir (-48 kg), and four in bronze.

The Moroccan judokas signed a remarkable course during the Dakar International Open which was contested last weekend. Indeed, the six members of the national team managed to glean medals, each in its category. On the first day of competition, Saturday, the Moroccans managed to win four medals, including two in gold, gleaned by Hassan Doukkali (-73 kg) and Aziza Chakir (-48 kg). After qualifying brilliantly for the -73 kg final, Hassan Doukkali got the better of the Senegalese Saliou Ndiaye, while Aziza Chakir managed to overcome the Ivorian Diarrassouba Maïmouna in the final of his category. For their part, Lamiae Eddinari (-57 kg) and Zakaria Lamaalem (-60 kg) won bronze, with respectively Kenyan Mailu Tabitha and Senegalese Keita.
On Sunday, the Moroccan judokas added two other bronze charms won by Sofia Belattar who beat the Senegalese Diatta Yacine in the category of less than 70 kg, and Hamza Al-Abdlaoui who disposed of the Congolese Gambi (-90 kg). At the end of this second day of competition, Morocco took third place in the general classification behind Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal. Kenya and Cameroon respectively ranked 4th and 5th. For information, a total of 17 countries took part in the Dakar International Judo Open which took place in the stadium Marius Ndiaye.
