Latvian women’s and men’s curling teams will hold test tournaments abroad

While curling competitions are not allowed even here in Latvia, in the meantime the men’s national team of the Latvian European Championship and the Olympic women’s national team will go to the stages of the world curling tour (PKT).

In order to save the practice of the games, from November 4 to 7, the men’s team will start in the “WCT Prague Classic 2021” in Prague, Czech Republic, and the women’s team in the “WCT Tallinn Ladies Challenger 2021” tournament in Tallinn, Estonia.

One of the main competitions of the season is no longer far away – the European Curling Championships for women and men, which will take place from 20 to 27 November in Lillehammer, Norway. This year, Latvia will be represented in the men’s competition by the team led by Mārtiņš Trukšāns.

To better prepare for the upcoming championship, the national team will compete this weekend with 23 more teams in the PKT stage. Participants will include teams from Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Korea, Russia, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Scotland, Finland, Switzerland, Hungary and Germany.

All teams, divided into four groups of six, will play the round tournament in their group. The top eight will advance to the quarterfinals of the competition to continue the fight for the WCT Prague Classic 2021 title.

At the same time, the PKT stage for women’s teams will take place in Tallinn for the fifth time. This year, 18 teams from countries such as the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Scotland, Switzerland, Hungary and Sweden will start. Latvia will be represented in this competition by the Olympic team led by Santa Blumberga-Bērziņa, who won a place in the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games, which will take place from 5 to 18 December in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.
In the Tallinn tournament, the teams will play in the round first.

Divided into three groups of six teams, the best of all will automatically enter the semi-finals, but the 2nd with 7th place, 3rd with 6th place and 4th with 5th place in the quarter-finals will determine the remaining three semi-finalists. The winners of the semi-finals will compete for the title of “WCT Tallinn Ladies Challenger 2021”.
