Kings coach Luke Walton must fear for his job

Will the NBA’s first coach layoff be coming soon? According to media reports, King’s coach Luke Walton’s chair wobbled.

Sam Amick and Shams Charania (both The Athletic) report that Walton could lose his job if the team doesn’t get enough wins in the next few days and weeks. A few hours after the report, the Kings celebrated a sovereign away win at the Detroit Pistons (129: 107).

The Kings had previously lost four games in a row, including games against San Antonio and Oklahoma City. Above all, the bankruptcy against OKC was bitter, after all, the Kings had the ball in hand with the chance to win before Thunder-Forward Lu Dort forced a steal and hit the game winner in the fast break.

Walton has been on the Kings’ sidelines since 2019, during this time the franchise has a record of 68-90 and is still waiting for the first playoff participation since 2006. There should be pressure above all from GM Monte McNair, whose opinion the squad is good enough to finally reach the playoffs again.

The second longest playoff losing streak is held by the Charlotte Hornets, who were last allowed to take part in the postseason in 2016. Sacramento is currently tenth in the west with a score of 6-8. This would secure the Kings at least one participation in the Play-In-Tournament, which was newly installed in the previous year.
