Jaguars, the only team that has not played on Thanksgiving Day

Since its founding in 1920, the NFL has insisted on celebrating matches en Thanksgiving Day. In 101 years of history glorious moments (like the “Leon Lett Game”) and ignominious (the “Butt Fumble”) have been lived, but the Jaguars have not been part of them.

Despite being part of the league since 1995, the Jacksonville club has not played a match en Thanksgiving and it is the only organization that has not played a game on the iconic holiday date.

The absence of the Jaguars in the Thanksgiving Day it is a true rarity. Even other organizations with less than 30 years of existence (Panthers, Ravens and Texans) register five appearances in games of these characteristics.

The other two teams with the least time in the league, Seahawks y Buccaneers (both 45 years in the league) combine for five matches disputed on Thanksgiving.

Oblivious to the reflectors

The absence of the Jaguars Thanksgiving is understandable by pointing out that in 26 years of life they only have 40 games in primetime (15 in MNF, 14 in TNF and 10 in SNF). In total, Jacksonville records 1.5 prime-time games per season, far from the league’s cap of five for teams in a year.

The foregoing is aggravated when considering that in the last 10 seasons they only have nine primetime games, all on Thursday nights. This implies that in its first 16 years of existence, it registered 30 prime time matches (1.9 per season).

The only consolation in Jacksonville is that since 2013 they have been one of the recurring teams at NFL games in London. His record in eight games is 4-4.
