The Swiss national floorball team for women suffers a potentially serious defeat at the start of the World Cup in Uppsala. The team of coach Rolf Kern loses against the Czech Republic 2: 5.

At the home World Cup two years ago, the Swiss only failed in the final in extra time to Sweden. 14 players from the team from that time are there again this time, so the expectations are correspondingly high. Therefore, the defeat against the Czech Republic is a bitter damper, especially as the victory in Group A is now out of reach – the other opponents are Latvia and Poland. If everything is now on paper, the Swiss will meet the Swedes in the semi-finals, who last won seven gold medals in a row.

Although Swiss women took the lead in the 7th minute through Julia Suter, after two thirds they were 1: 2 behind. In the 42nd minute, Michelle Wiki equalized to 2-2 after a nice pass from Flurina Marti. One minute later, after a bad pass from Marti, the Eastern Europeans coached by Swiss trainer Sascha Rhyner were in the lead again. This time the Swiss women were unable to react despite great chances – in the World Cup semi-finals two years ago they had caught up with the Czechs in the last two minutes with a 2: 6 and won 7: 6 after extra time.

The Swiss will play against Latvia on Monday.
