Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have to fight the title battle on the asphalt, but a lot has happened between the teams of the two drivers this season as well off the track. The FIA is regularly called in and the relationship between Toto Wolff and Christian Horner seems to be deteriorating enormously.
According to Hamilton, the political games are all part of a title fight. “That’s also what the sport is, isn’t it,” the Briton answers to RacingNews365, among others, when asked about the battle next to the asphalt. “It’s very intense, both on and off the track.”
Hamilton hopes for respect
However, Hamilton does not hope that the political battle will overshadow the races. “But I see no reason why there can’t be a discussion. Ultimately, respect is the most important thing. I think we should always remain respectful, both on and off the track.”
The Mercedes driver stays out of the discussions as much as possible, but makes it known that he stands behind his team in this. “I fully support my team. Like I said before, I’m focusing all my energy on preparing for a race weekend. I have no idea what they’re going to do with the discussions or what the outcome of this will be. I’m not spending there time or energy.”
