Gymnast Jabiel Polanco tells the youth that if you can

EL NUEVO DIARIO, CALI, COLOMBIA.- Dominican gymnast Jabiel Polanco won the gold medal this Sunday at the Pan American Youth Games held here.

Polanco, a native of Santiago, finished with a score of 13,133 in the rings modality, in artistic gymnastics.

In this way, the Dominican delegation until this Sunday is in eighth place, after totaling three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

“It is a very strong feeling (to win the gold) and I am grateful to God for giving me the privilege of being a medalist,” said Polanco after finishing his participation.

The gymnast extended a message to the Dominican youth.

“That if you can. It was not easy at all, we had to sacrifice a lot, because we worked very hard ”, he added.

He thanked President Luis Abinader and Minister Francisco Camacho for supporting Dominican athletes. “Thank you for the support, I will always put it up high.”

Polanco will have the opportunity this Monday to hang more medals when he takes part in the final of the horse and parallel jumping modalities.

So far, the disciplines of weights, judo and gymnastics have contributed medals to the medal table.

Santana wins bronze

The weightlifter Sindy Santana Carrión obtained this Sunday the bronze medal in the 76 kilograms category of the weight tournament, which takes place in the Ramón Elías López Pavilion.

Santana Carrión lifted 97 kilos in snatch and 120 in clean and jerk for a total of 217, just one less than Kelin Juliana Jiménez, from Ecuador, who took the silver after registering two less her in the first movement (95), but three more in clean and jerk (123) to add 218.

Badminton falls

The Dominican Nairoby Jiménez was defeated by the Peruvian Inés Castillo 2 sets to 0 in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles of the badminton event.

Jiménez fell with partials of 21-15 and 21-5.

With the elimination of Jiménez, the Dominican badminton team’s performance in the tournament concluded.
