Guatemala badminton dressed in gold in II Futures Series

The first gold medal came through the pair of Nikté Sotomayor and Diana Corleto, who defeated the American Lauren Lam and Kodi Tang, with partials of 21-19 and 25-23, in one of the most anticipated matches this Saturday of finals.

The second gold metal went to the neck of Rubén Castellanos against the North American Don Henley Averia in a heart attack final that reached three sets (21-17 / 13-21 / 24-22).

The pair of Jonathan Solís and Diana Corleto closed the harvest, defeating the Canadians Nguyen Quan and Alexandra Mocan, in three contested sets.

In men’s doubles, Christopher Martínez and Castellanos won the silver against Enrico Asunción and Averia (United States) and partials of 19-21 and 23-25.

The northern country also dominated in women’s singles through Lauren Lam, who faced her compatriot Ishika Jaiswal; while the bronze went to the Peruvian Fernanda Munar.

Guatemala also got three bronzes, divided into female single (Nikté Sotomayor), male double (Solís and Aníbal Marroquín) and mixed (Yeison Del Cid and Karolina Orellana).

The tournament began last Thursday with the participation of players from the United States, Peru, El Salvador, Canada and Guatemala as host and closed its doors this Saturday at the Teodoro Flores gym in the capital.
