Both participants of the final had won the final tournament of the season before meeting in the final – Zverev did it in 2018, but Medvedev received the champion’s cup a year ago.
For the first time since the 2005 ATP season finals, two tennis players under the age of 25 met.
Zverev was already reported to be superior to Serbian Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals on Saturday, while Medvedev defeated Norwegian tennis player Kasper Ruda. Thus, in the last two games of the season’s final tournament, Zverev defeated both world-leading leader Djokovic and second racket Medvedev.
