The 2021 French Badminton Championships are taking place this week near the Palais des Sports in Besançon (25). The finals are scheduled for Saturday. This is a special edition for the 148 participants. These French Championships are in fact in head-on competition with a stage of the international circuit played in Germany in a world calendar that has been greatly revised due to the covid. As a result, the brothers of Fos Toma Junior and Christo Popov, engaged in the German tournament, do not participate while Christo is the title holder and Toma Jr number 1 French. Some of the other best French players are also missing (QI Xuefei, Thom Gicquel, Delphine Delrue, …)
In the women’s table, in the absence of QI Xuefei, winner in 2020, it is the Fosséenne Yaëlle Hoyaux who takes on one of the favorite roles. This afternoon in 8th she easily dominated Flore Allegre: 07-21 11-21 (in 26 minutes)
The other ditch Ophelia Casier also crossed the round of 16 this morning, dominating Kelly Banchonpanith: 21-10 21-16 (in 29 minutes).
Note that Toma Junior Popov (35th world) is playing today the round of 16 of the Hylo Open tournament (Super 500), of which he is the defending champion, against Singaporean Kean Loh (39th world).
In doubles Christo and Tomi were eliminated in the first round.
