five Italian medals at the 2021 UWW Grappling World Championships

From 28 to 31 October 2021 the Italian FIGMMA grappling team competed at the UWW World Championships in Serbia.

The team consisted of: Zanolini Loris (-62 kg), Lombardi Orion (-66 kg), Sacchetti Alessio (-71 kg), Pedersoli Carlo (-84 kg), Vermiglio Matteo (-84 kg), Pilato Manuel (- 92 kg), Cecca Guglielmo (-100 kg), Gabrielli Serena (-53 kg), Benedini Melissa (-58 kg), Manca Benedetta (-64 kg), Mungai Irene (-71 kg), Facchineri Immacolata (-90 kg) ), accompanied by the National Technical Directors Bernardo Serrini and Andrea Lavaggi.

Italy has won five very important medals in the grappling competition: one ofsilver with Carlo Eduardo Pedersoli (-84 kg) and four of bronze with Serena Gabrielli (-53 kg), Melissa Benedini (-58 kg), Irene Mungai (-71 kg) and Alessio Sacchetti (-71 kg), current bronze medal at the European Championships, in addition to fifth place from Benedetta Manca (-64 kg).

In grappling, on the other hand, the Italian national team won two fifth places with Zanolini Loris (-62 kg) and Guglielmo Cecca (-100 kg).

We remember that Guglielmo Cecca (-100 kg) won the silver medal at the World Championships in combat in veterans.

Nations medal table

  1. Russia (175 points)
  2. Poland (81 points)
  3. Kazakhstan (78 points)

L’Italy it was ranked al sixth place (47 points) in the world medal table on 19 participating nations.
