Brazil’s Flamengo team, on the other hand, was crowned the Basketball Champions League America’s 2020-21 champions and will be returning to the Intercontinental Cup three years after reaching the final in Rio de Janeiro and losing to AEK.

Orlando Magic member Lakeland Magic, who clinched the NBA Development League title in 2020-21, will take part in the intercontinental competition for the first time and will take the flag from G League clubs Austin Spurs and Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said: “We are very excited and looking forward to this truly historic moment when the FIBA ​​Intercontinental Cup will finally take place in Africa and an African club will take part. The tournament in 2022 will mark a turning point and take another important step towards achieving FIBA’s strategic goal of shaping the landscape of international club competitions.”

The event, which will be hosted by the Hassan Mostafa Sports Hall of the Egyptian Basketball Federation in Cairo, will start with two semi-finals to be played on Friday, February 11, 2022, and will end with the final and third place game on Sunday, February 13, 2022.

Real Madrid is the most successful club in the history of the cup, having won the title five times, and their most recent title was in 2015 against Bauru of Brazil in Sao Paulo.

The draw for the FIBA ​​Intercontinental Cup 2022 will be held early next year.
