Fernando Jaramillo president of Dimayor declarations about the one-year tournament | Colombian Soccer | Betplay League

The second half of the BetPlay League 2021-II entered its final stretch and eight teams, divided into two groups, will fight for the title at the end of the year.

While the team that will accompany Deportes Tolima in the 2022 Copa Libertadores is being resolved, an issue related to the format of the League has caused controversy.

Is it possible that the tournament in the near future will stop being played every six months and will be played for one year?

In dialogue with the Win Sports ‘Primer Toque’ program, Fernando Jaramillo, president of Dimayor, gave indications about the format of Colombian football in 2022.

“I think it will be very similar to what we have, we must all make that decision with the clubs,” said at first the top leader of the local tournament.

Speaking clearly from the desire and the will, the idea is effectively to make the League to one year because “we save time, not wear down the players and continuity to a process that suddenly gives us better results in international competition”. Something that, according to him, is endorsed by the different coaches.

Now, the problem for all this to happen is the following: “Being realistic with what we have and the commercial commitments that we have already signed, a one-year championship is not possible.”.

In this vein, for next year “some variations that some clubs want to introduce” are expected, but in general terms the system will be very similar to the current one.
