Euroleague: A heavy fine against the owner of the Panathinaikos

It would take a special “tab” to list all the fines that the Euroleague imposed on the former president of Panathinaikos, who is still its owner, Dimitris Giannakopoulos. The last is in the amount of 140,000 euros!

“Mr. Dimitris Giannakopoulos, associated with Panathinaikos, was fined 140,000 € for offensive remarks towards Euroleague Basketball competitions and its management bodies, in accordance with article 24.1.g) of the Disciplinary Code of the ‘Euroleague Basketball,’ read a Euroleague press release.

Dimitris Giannakopoulos has already insulted referees, opponents, but his Turkish head is the organization’s CEO, Jordi Bertomeu, and he called him a “clown” and “thief” when the clubs decided to move away from the board.

But the millionaire is not the only Greek fined by the Euroleague. Panathinaikos coach Dimitris Priftis was also penalized.

Panathinaikos coach Dimitris Priftis was fined € 3,000 for acts of disrespect towards the referee team during their away match against FC Bayern Munich under the ‘article 27.2.b) of the Disciplinary Code of the Euroleague of basketball ”.

And… the great rival, Olympiakos, does not come out unscathed. His coach, Giorgios Bartzokas was fined € 4,500 for also “disrespecting” the referees during the match at Anadolu Efes Istanbul.

So goes Greek basketball.
