Elim CDM 2022: FIFA opens investigation into Ghana-South Africa game

FIFA has opened an investigation into the Matchday 6 match between Ghana and South Africa last Sunday at Cape Coast Stadium. This opening of an investigation follows the complaint filed by the umbrella body of South African football to protest against the disputed penalty awarded to Ghana by the central referee of this match.

If Ghana secured their field ticket for the play-offs last Sunday by beating South Africa (1-0), they will face an investigation process opened by FIFA shortly after the South Africa complained about the arbitration. This Tuesday, November 16, 2021, FIFA announced that it had received a complaint from SAFA regarding the match between Ghana and South Africa on behalf of the 6th day of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.

“FIFA has received a complaint from the South African federation regarding this matter and will examine it. Please understand that we cannot comment further at this point, ”FIFA said on Tuesday in response to a media question on the status of the SAFA complaint.

Indeed, the umbrella body of South African football accuses the Senegalese central, Maguette N’diaye who officiated the match of bias. The main criticism of the Senegalese whistle is the generous penalty it awarded to Daniel Amartey, which penalty allowed the Black Stars to obtain the three points of the victory.
