Dries Mertens (with delay) honored for 100th cap, King Filip attentive spectator | Red Devils

Postponement is not adjustment. 5 months after his 100th international match, Dries Mertens has also been honored for that milestone. The Red Devil received a beautiful portrait and a cap. King Filip applauded in the stands.

In full European Championship mode, there was no time for a party. Dries Mertens played his 100th international match for the national team against Denmark. He thus became the fifth Belgian to reach that number of international matches. Romelu Lukaku would follow that example a few games later.

And yet the striker was honored for Mertens. It was like this: Mertens – meanwhile on 102 caps – was missing during the international match in September due to a shoulder injury. He missed the home game against the Czech Republic, in which Lukaku was honored.

Against Estonia, Mertens still received his well-deserved applause from the King Baudouin Stadium. And of course the traditional “cap”.

King Filip and daughter attentive spectator

King Filip also did not want to miss the World Cup qualification of the Red Devils. He was an attentive spectator in the stands of the King Baudouin Stadium. Princess Eleonore also took part in the competition.
