The 20-time Grand Slam winner clearly won 6: 3, 6: 2 against the Austrian outsider Dennis Novak on Friday evening in Innsbruck, making it 2-0 for the Serbs. Before that, Dusan Lajovic had prevailed 7: 6 (7: 5), 3: 6, 7: 5 against Austria’s Gerald Melzer. The double Nikola Cacic / Filip Krajinovic then made the smooth 3-0 success of Serbia perfect.

On Saturday (4 p.m. / ServusTV) the German men’s team will meet Serbia. The world number three, Zverev, who defeated Djokovic in the semifinals of the ATP Finals last weekend, is missing because he decided to go on vacation instead of participating in the Davis Cup at the end of the season.

Defending champion Spain also started victoriously, competing without its superstar Rafael Nadal and the young star Carlos Alcaraz, who is infected with corona. The Iberians made their opening win against Ecuador clear after the two singles.
