DFB does not comment on the vaccination status of the professionals in quarantine

NAfter Niklas Süle’s positive corona test, the German Football Association (DFB) does not comment on the vaccination status of the other four national players who were quarantined. The order of the health department alone could not necessarily be assessed as a result of a missing corona vaccination, said team doctor Tim Meyer on Tuesday. “Basically, the vaccination is one of the criteria,” said Meyer. “The intensity and duration of the contacts” are also included. According to the general recommendation of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), close contact persons without symptoms no longer need to be in quarantine if they are vaccinated.

In addition to Süle, his Munich teammates Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala and Karim Adeyemi were quarantined by Red Bull Salzburg. Kimmich had recently publicly stated that he had not yet been vaccinated. Gnabry tested positive in April 2021, Süle has been vaccinated twice. The quintet flew to Wolfsburg on Monday with four other players who do not have to be in quarantine, but should be temporarily separated from the rest of the DFB selection in the team hotel.

According to Meyer, the Munich Land Health Department is responsible for evaluating the quarantine measures for the Bayern professionals. The current Munich ordinance states: “The quarantine requirement does not generally apply to contact persons whose immune system is not impaired by medication or previous illnesses and who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.” This also applies to people who have recovered with a vaccine dose or, if “the underlying test was at least 28 days and a maximum of six months ago”. However, the health department could “make a different decision in individual cases and order a quarantine”.

“Schadenfreude is out of place now. I still hope that Joshua Kimmich will decide to have the vaccination. The vaccination protects against Covid, severe Covid endangers the skill level, “tweeted SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach. Kimmich’s statements had sparked an emotional vaccination debate around professional football.
