Copenhagen. Several Danish badminton players will have the opportunity to show themselves at the individual world championships in December.

Badminton Denmark writes on its website that the association has agreed to three extra places.

One of them goes to veteran Hans-Kristian Vittinghus in men’s singles, while the duos Mette Poulsen and Alexandra Bøje as well as Amalie Schulz and Christine Busch join in women’s doubles.

Denmark was given the opportunity to select extra players in a late qualifying phase, explains elite and sports manager Jens Meibom.

For Hans-Kristian, Alexandra and Mette, it was a “no-brainer”, as they are part of our men’s singles and women’s doubles efforts, respectively. In relation to Amalie and Christine, Amalie is included in our elite program, and the girls train regularly at NETC (National Elite Training Center).

– We thus see it as a good opportunity to give a young women’s doubles pair, which we are betting on, important championship experience.

We look forward to seeing them and all the other Danish players in action at the World Cup in December, says Meibom to badminton.dk.

35-year-old Vittinghus is going to the World Cup for the eighth time, while the four other players will make their debut at an individual world championship.

It will be fun to come to the World Cup. I do not think any of us expected us to play it, so I am surprised and very much looking forward to it. It will also be very cool to be allowed to train together and build on our game, says Christine Busch.
