Corrientes Basketball could not complete the reaction

The Playoffs of the Women’s Basketball League began with a 60-58 Florida Union victory over Corrientes Básquet. Tomorrow the series closes at El Templo de Rock, and will be televised on DirecTV and basquetpass.tv.

Unión Florida (3rd place in the regular phase) won the first game of the series against Corrientes Básquet by just two points, over the end. Carla Miculka added 20 points and 21 rebounds for the Buenos Aires, while in Corrientes Básquet the American Adrianna Murphy stood out with 15 points.

The teams in this key had already met in the regular phase, with a tight and controversial victory for Unión Florida, from 60 to 58. That is why a match was expected from start to finish, and it was.

The surprising thing was that the porteñas started much less effective than usual, with a fragment of 5 minutes without converting. Corrientes took advantage of it with the perimeter Aldana Duarte and Sofía Cabrera, until Sofía Zapke appeared with 11 points (three triples). Together with Sabrina Rodighero’s contribution in a fiery entrance, they were able to take the lead and closed the set with a 16-10 advantage.

In the second quarter, the expected Miculka and Agustina Leiva had more interventions, but who made the difference was Ayelen Boujon, who chained 5 points and led her team to the widest advantages. Then the north team reacted momentarily, with some steals and scores from their second unit, although after 7 losses they closed the first half with a big difference against (31-22 for Vicente López’s).

Already in the complement, the porteñas struck first, they got three-point plays from fouls received, and in Corrientes the lack of effectiveness was felt from a distance (0/11 in 29 minutes). Despite becoming strong in defense -Leiva added 5 steals in this quarter and Malvina D’Agostino took several rebounds-, they did not capitalize on Union Florida’s slump and the difference did not go below double digits.

Delfina Saravia suffered an injury to her right ankle when coming down from an inning on a tray, and her condition will have to be alert for the second game. It was the fourth most even (13-12), and they went to rest with the score at 44-34.

Corrientes was encouraged at the beginning of the last segment, with a fiery start from Julieta Tell, who took advantage of the defensive blocking of her teammates to bring her team closer to 6 points. Miculka slowly reached 18 points, scoring 100% of the free ones that Corrientes generated with fouls. The D’Agostino-Murphy duo returned to add and revitalize the ending. The North American added 12 points in 16 minutes, and with the contribution of Malvina, they were only 3 away with a minute to go.

The final minute deserves a separate paragraph: Novatti’s men stole possession twice, and on the second occasion, Murphy tied the game at 58. Miculka put the porteñas in front again from the low post, with 5 seconds remaining. In the last short possession, Union Florida had no fouls to give. The Corrientes gave the responsibility to Leiva, who could not match him in the last one, and the same result was sealed as in the first confrontation, 60 to 58.

If they repeat the victory tomorrow, those of Vicente López will advance to face the winner of Obras vs. Ferro. In case of winning Corrientes Básquet, you must do so by three or more points of difference, since the winner will be determined by the difference of goals in both duels.
