Conference League: self-criticism at LASK after promotion

Conference League

After the 2-0 win against Alaschkert, LASK celebrated their early entry into the knockout phase of the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday. The winter in the European Cup in the almost empty Wörthersee Stadium was not celebrated too euphorically. Because there were also some points of criticism.

The performance of the Upper Austrians against the current seventh in the Armenian league was not particularly glamorous. Coach Andreas Wieland therefore saw “no delicacy”. The victory, which was fixed by two goals from Keito Nakamura (12th, 87th), was highly deserved because of the possibilities of the home side – and it also caused self-criticism.

“We were inconsistent again today with regard to the evaluation of chances. That has to get better, “said LASK-Motor Peter Michorl – but to emphasize one thing:” But you can’t deny anyone’s will. “That should also be the case in the league. In the home game against WSG Tirol the Farewell to the last place in the table. “On Sunday we have the chance to hand over the red lantern. We’ll put everything in there, ”announced Michorl. “I really hope that we can now transfer that to the league.”

LASK secures promotion in the Conference League

With the 2-0 win against the Armenian representative Alaschkert, LASK is also in the European Cup after the winter break.

Fortunately, no more injuries

The tense personnel situation with some injuries and four players missing after positive coronavirus tests was not a decisive criterion against Alaschkert, the guests presented themselves too weak. Wieland’s greatest concern seemed to be the fear of further injuries. Marvin Potzmann and Rene Renner hobbled off the field after duels, but were able to play the game to the end.

Wieland was basically satisfied that a goal was avoided in the few offensive efforts of the Armenians. In the Conference League, LASK only allowed one goal in four games – in the 1-1 draw against Maccabi Tel Aviv. The Israelis, which are still tied on points, will be the next away opponent on November 25th. It should be the decisive game for the group victory and the associated fixed place in the round of 16.

Michorl spoke of an imminent “final”. The second must compete in an intermediate round (February 17/24, 2022) against a Europa League third for the place in the round of the best 16. The Bundesliga starts five days in advance in spring. In the quarter-finals of the ÖFB-Cup, the LASK is already in action on February 4th in the Schlager in Salzburg.
