Completely Dutch podium: Van Anrooij triumphs in the women’s promises | European Championship cyclocross

After Ryan Kamp and Lucinda Brand, now Shirin van Anrooij. The 3rd European title for our northern neighbors did not come without a fight. Already in the 1st round our compatriot Julie De Wilde fell to the flat. Puck Pieterse, who was aiming for a 2nd U23 title, also got acquainted with the Dutch mud.

She was forced to pick up a new two-wheeler and so she had to chase. Meanwhile, Shirin van Anrooij shook a gear out of his calves. She rode alone in the lead.

But Pieterse didn’t want to break. She fought back like a devil in a holy water font and fought her way back into the match. 2 laps before the end, the gap between Van Anrooij and Pieterse was only 9 seconds. So playable.

Van Anrooij felt her compatriot approaching, but continued to develop a high pace. She rushed to the European title with the promises. The Netherlands tops, because Fem van Empel also conquered a spot on the podium. The world champion settled in the battle for 3rd place with the French Line Burquier.

Julie De Wilde was the first Belgian rider with a 16th place.
