Chilean Alejandro Tabilo is proclaimed champion of the Guayaquil Challenger

Guayaquil (Ecuador), Nov 7 (EFE) .- Chilean tennis player Alejandro Tabilo won the Challenger title played in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil this Sunday, beating the Dutch Jesper de Jong in the final 6-1 and 7-5.

With this result -obtained at the Guayaquil Tennis Club, amid the encouragement of fans who complied with biosafety regulations against Covid-19-, Tabilo was awarded 80 points for the classification of the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP).

The 24-year-old Chilean took advantage of his good services to annoy his rival and score each point until he made the match played on the main court of the Guayaquil Tennis Club his own.

“I thank the public who came to support me, especially a little boy who always encouraged me. I have worked for so long for this, and to congratulate the organization because it is not easy to organize a tournament in the midst of everything that we are going through at a general level. “, highlighted Tabilo after proclaiming himself the winner of the tournament.

“It was an incredible week, the truth is that I am very happy to have won my first Challenger, here in South America,” he added.

Tabilo’s successful campaign started with a 6-4, 6-2 win over the number one seed, Spanish Jaume Munar.

Then, in the quarterfinals, he accounted for Darian King, from Barbados, 6-3, 6-1.

Another of the important games of the Chilean tennis player occurred when he eliminated in the semifinals the champion of the Ecuadorian tournament of 2019, the Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild, by 6-2 and 7-6 (2).

Tabilo joined compatriot Paul Capdeville who won the tournament in 2010, beating Argentine Diego Junquera in the final.

Other winners of the Guayaquil tournament have been the Argentines Sergio Roitman (2006 and 2009), Leonardo Mayer (2012 and 2013) and the Ecuadorian Nicolás Lapentti (2007 and 2009), among others.
