Bundesliga: WSG smashes Wolfsberger series

The Tyroleans improved to ninth place in the table with the Schützenfest and banished Altach to the bottom of the ranking. The WSG moved away from the bottom by three points and thus not only ended the run of success of the second-placed Carinthians, but also emerged victorious for the first time after three unsuccessful attempts.

The 23-year-old Ciacomo Vrioni gave the home side the lead in the 26th minute and also ensured the final score (85th). This makes him number three in the league shooter list with seven hits. In addition, the loaner from Juventus Turin prepared the goal of Thomas Sabitzer (38th) and was also mainly responsible for the own goal by WAC goalkeeper Alexander Kofler (62nd). Valentino Müller (77th) also entered the shooter list. The only result of the guests was a goal by Eliel Peretz (45th).

WSG Tirol demonstrates WAC

Bottom line WSG Tirol smashed the winning streak of the WAC and thus gave off the red lantern in a spectacular way. The Wattener dealt with the Wolfsberger 5: 1.

Tyroleans use WAC errors

After a mutual palpation, the game really picked up speed from the 20th minute. Vrioni passed WAC goalkeeper Alexander Kofler, but his conclusion was directed into the corner (21st). Four minutes later, the Juve loan took advantage of the next chance, headed after a class cross from the five. The former Wattner David Gugganig was far too passive and did not get into the duel. A double hit almost succeeded, but Vrioni did not play a counterattack after a Sabitzer pass to the end (30th).

But the WAC was also spurred on by the deficit and was always dangerous. Ferdinand Oswald, who had recovered from a knee injury, fended off a Peretz shot as well as a Müller return (33rd). Michael Liendl also shot Felix Bacher from a good position (37th). That took revenge in return. The Tyroleans switched from their own sixteen to lightning speed, and Sabitzer completed from 14 meters after Vrioni pass with feeling via the inside pole.

A preliminary decision had not yet been made, however, because the Carinthians took command with their backs to the wall. Oswald was able to fend off a Peretz shot in a corner. After this, Bror Blume unintentionally headed towards his own goal, where Peretz showed dusting qualities from four meters. Immediately afterwards Adis Jasic had the 2-2 on the foot in stoppage time in the first half, but shot just wide (45th + 1).

Wolfsberg runs into debacle

After the restart, the game needed start-up time again. And again it was Vrioni who shone. At first he made too long a hook past Kofler, but then he danced the much too passive Mario Leitgeb and Gugganig in the penalty area, pulled from the goal line, and the ball landed via Kofler’s body in the net worth seeing. Michael Liendl’s subsequent WAC goal was rightly denied by the VAR due to a previous offside position (69th).

Otherwise only the Tyroleans played, who still ensured that the situation was very clear. Kofler was only able to fend off a powerful shot by Müller from the penalty area to the top of the crossbar, from where the leather went into the goal. One minute after Markus Wallner hit the bar, it was up to Vrioni to provide the final highlight with a low shot from more than 20 meters into the corner. The WAC, who started with the same starting line-up as in the 4-1 win against Rapid, remains a welcome opponent; of eight championship duels, they have only lost one.

Voices for the game:

Thomas Silberberger (WSG trainer): “It was a deserved victory, which I think was a bit too high in terms of height, because the WAC came back impressively after the 2-0 and 3-1 win. If the next goal had counted because of offside, I would have been scared because the WAC is a dominant team. With the revoked goal, however, the switch was thrown for us, all dams were broken, one dream goal after the other fell. We had an outstanding day in the counter situations. “

Robin Dutt (WAC coach): “There are no sensational victories in the league, the teams are too balanced for that. It was a well-deserved victory for WSG Tirol. That what the opponent lacked in the last few weeks, the effectiveness in front of the goal, made him stand out today. If you are not in the form of the day in the league, you will have difficulties. The reason for this can be found in the game against the ball. Of course, we weren’t effective at the front either. When we lost the ball, however, we didn’t have anywhere near the counter-pressing situations that made us strong in the past few weeks. “
