Big shame for Anthony Davis via Dwight Howard

If he displays a higher level than last season, Anthony Davis is not exempt from all reproach. One of them, pinned by a site specializing in statistics, is also particularly bad for AD …

When he landed with the Lakers in 2019, Anthony Davis was scheduled to become the clear leader of the franchise, and LeBron James himself had announced he was leaving the keys to the truck. In reality, however, things turned out a little differently. More than two years later, the King is still the team leader, on and off the pitch, and AD is going through a funny period.

Sparkling during the title season, especially in the bubble, Unibrow failed to maintain such production last year and during the current year. A regression then unfortunate stagnation for a player who certainly remains excellent, but who lacks consistency at the highest level to be the leader of a team like the Lakers – which was the plan.

The stat that hurts Anthony Davis… via Dwight Howard

One of the biggest challenges for the former Pelicans is at the 3-point line. Since the 2017-2018 season, the regression has been permanent for the big man: 34%, then 33.1% in 2018-2019, then 33% the following year, then 26% last season, and … 17.6% for the moment in 2021-2022. An abysmal number, brought to light by Statmuse:

Anthony Davis shoots 17.6% from 3 points this season.

Dwight Howard has scored as many 3-pointers as AD in their last 10 games (3).

One of Davis’s strengths is this multi-dimensional side that allows him to both dominate low post and punish mid-distance and off. This facet of the game of Unibrow has suffered massively for many months, to the point that the problem becomes heavy and affects the overall judgment of AD services. However, in such a complicated period, the Lakers would need their interior at the top …

The season is still long, and there is no shortage of examples of players having difficulty shooting from a distance to start a campaign, such as Luka Doncic last year or, more recently, Damian Lillard. The fact that the downward trend is spread over 4 years is, however, a cause for concern that can no longer be ignored in Los Angeles.

Anthony Davis as effective at three points as Dwight Howard? The time has come to sound the alarm bells for AD, who can only be ashamed of this statistic. It’s up to him to succeed in adjusting the sights and overcoming the galley… like a true leader.
