Basketball: Vinotinto ready to challenge Panama in the pre-world championship

CARACAS – The Vinotinto of the baskets ready to participate in the first qualifying window towards the 2023 World Cup. In this first stage the national team coached by Fernando Duró will face Panamá tomorrow and the day after in the bubble of the Obras Sanitarios stadium in Buenos Aires.

The Argentine coach for the two matches against the “Canaleños” has called up 12 players. The group includes four basketball players who play abroad: David Cubillán (Unifacisa Basquete, Brazil), Jhornan Zamora (Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball, France), Garly Sojo (Capitanes de la Ciudad de México, Mexico), Néstor Colmenares ( Club Atlético Goes, Uruguay).

Completing the Venezuelan delegation: José Bracho (Centauros de Portuguesa), Pedro Chourio (Spartans Distrito Capital), Edgar Martínez (Guaiqueríes de Margarita), Anyelo Cisneros (Cocodrilos de Caracas), José Materán (Gladiators of Anzoátegui), José Ascanio (Guaiqueríes de Margarita), Windi Graterol (Spartans Distrito Capital), Miguel Ruiz (Trotamundos de Carabobo).

For this first qualifying window, coach Fernando Duró will have to do without two big shots such as: Heissler Guillent (right calf injury) and Yohanner Sifontes (left hand injury).

Tomorrow will be the ninth match between the national team of Venezuela and that of Panama with a budget that favors Vinotinto with 7 wins and 1 defeat.

The first precedent dates back to 25 August 2001, even on that occasion they faced each other in the qualifiers towards the world championship. That day Vinotinto won by 106 to 92, that victory served to the Creoles to qualify for the Indianapolis 2002 world championship.
